BEAD CLASSROOM
Beaded Toggle Clasp
I use Beaded Toggle Clasps as closures on many of my jewelry projects. The right closure on a bracelet or necklace can mean the difference between a truly elegant piece of wearable art or a "so so" piece of jewelry.

The size of the beads being used and the type of project will determine how big to make the toggle. Below are my "rule of thumb" recommendations.

  Width Length
Delica Beads 10 beads 10 beads
11 Seed Beads 10 beads 4 beads

THE TOGGLE Complete a square of Even Count Flat Peyote stitch. Roll the square into a tube and join (zipper) the edges to form a tube. Weave the thread to the center beads of the tube. Pick up 6 seed beads and attach to bracelet/necklace. Go back through 4 of the beads and add 2 beads before going back into the toggle. Pass the thread through this several times to reinforce the clasp.

THE RING On the opposite end of your bracelet/necklace form a ring of seed beads to attach the toggle through. The number of beads used will depend on the size of your toggle. The toggle (when turned sideways) should comfortably fit through the ring, but should not pull back out when being worn. When using 11 seed beads normally a 20 bead ring has worked well for me. Go back through the ring several times with your thread to reinforce it.
